HEAD OF VISUAL MERCHANDISING EU - Paris, France
Full-Time
Purpose

The Head of Visual Merchandising (VM) leads the development and execution of impactful and brand-consistent visual strategies across all European store formats. This role is responsible for translating MUJI’s brand vision into immersive visual merchandising experiences, aligned with global directives and local commercial needs. The position oversees all VM planning with a strong cross-functional component involving store operations, marketing, merchandising, and global teams (Japan HQ).

1. Strategy & Planning
Define and lead seasonal and monthly visual merchandising strategies, ensuring alignment with MUJI’s global identity and local market goals.
Develop long-term store layout strategies, with emphasis on:
• Customer flow
• Product storytelling
• Zoning and product adjacencies
• Plan layouts for:
o New store openings
o Refurbishments
o Shop-in-shop formats and pop-ups
Create and supervise implementation of promotion tables and bay configurations, supporting commercial priorities and storytelling.

2. Execution & Coordination
Lead the creative direction for in-store displays and window executions, in line with brand campaigns and commercial objectives.
Oversee the execution of visual installations, working with local VM teams to ensure:
• Brand consistency
• Quality of execution
• Timely implementation
• Coordinate development and deployment of:
• Signage and wayfinding
• Promotional graphics and materials
• Ensure local stores receive the right tools and guidance, including:
• Visual packs
• Planograms
Guidelines sourced from Japan (RKJ) and created by MEL.
Ensure clear and efficient communication across all EU countries and store formats.

3. Team Management & Support
Directly manage:
• Brand Graphic Designer, tbd cf Marketing double reporting line
• Signage Graphic Designer
• Regional VM, with dotted reporting to Regional Managers Mentor and support local VM teams across Europe, by:
• Facilitating knowledge-sharing and best practices
• Providing strategic direction and creative input
• Supplying timely and relevant visual assets
Ensure that the Signage Coordinator in Store Ops (tbc or in VM teamà has clear direction to:
• Manage local orders
• Handle translations
• Track deliveries and deadlines for graphic elements

4. Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
Monitor KPI impact of VM strategies on:
• Commercial performance
• Traffic and conversion
• Customer behavior
• Use store and market feedback to develop:
• Weekly and monthly action plans
• Adjustments to layouts or VM plans as needed

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with:
Merchandising for launch alignment and product visibility Marketing for seasonal campaigns and branding synergies Retail Operations to ensure smooth execution at store level
Japan HQ (RKJ) to adapt global strategies to the European context without duplication or overlap Align on budgets, timelines, and workload balance across departments and regions.

6. Budget & Project Management
Manage budgets related to:
• Fixture production and installation, tbd
• Graphics and signage development
• Visual tools and communication materials
