Rob - Merchandise Manager, Household

How did you get to your current role?

I joined MUJI as an Assistant Merchandiser back in 2016 and have worked my way up through various levels of Merchandising to where I am now.

How long have you worked for MUJI?

Almost 7 years.

A bit of what you do in your role at MUJI?

My role as Merchandise Manager for the Household and Food divisions involves overseeing the team responsible for the planning, stock management and trading of the diverse range of Household and Food products sold by MUJI in Europe. As a team, our role is to maximise sales opportunities and profitability of the divisions whilst controlling stock as efficiently as possible.

How did you get your job at MUJI?

I started my merchandising career working for a UK based supermarket chain, first for their international business and then moving to their UK arm. Whilst I enjoyed my time there, I wanted to move to a team where I felt the work I was doing would make more a difference to the outcomes of the company. MUJI gave me that opportunity from day one to have ownership of a range of products and know that my decisions made a real difference.

What excites you working for MUJI?

MUJI Europe is a company that is growing and always looking for ways to expand and to change the way we operate to find success. That evolution means that there are always new challenges on the horizon, which ensures the job is always interesting.

What advice would you give to Team members wanting to progress?

I would say that MUJI is a great company to work for if you are looking to progress in your career. One thing I'd recommend to people wanting to progress would be to try to get an understanding of not just how your team/department operates, but also how other teams operate. All departments in MUJI work together to help the business succeed and the greater your understanding of each department, the more instrumental you can be in that success.
